Артикль с названиями достопримечательностей, организаций и учреждений

Постановка правильного артикля перед названиями тех или иных организаций, учреждений или достопримечательностей нередко вызывает сложности. Именно поэтому я решила создать алфавитный список наиболее затруднительных в плане постановки артикля названий. В скобках после названия будет стоять артикль или прочерк в случае отсутствия артикля. Я не стала включать в список названия, содержащие предлог of, так как все они принимают артикль the и не составляют особой трудности.

Поясните, пожалуйста, почему Вы написали название площади с the и улицу, которую обычно дают как исключение, без the:

Cathedral Square (the)

Мне кажется, нужно площадь без артикля по общему правилу и the High Street.

Ниже приведены упражнения на употребление артиклей a /an /the. Данный список включает самые простые упражнения, которые затрагивают в основном только базовое использование английского артикля. Почему не «А butter. «?? (единственное число, исчисляемое)

Здравствуйте, lan. Масло — неисчисляемое. Можно посчитать граммы, килограммы, пачки масла — но не само масло. А потому — без артикля.

Упражнение 4. Вставка 14.

Скажите пожалуйста почему перед gallery не нужен артикль the?

Там же говорится про конкретную галерею, которая The National Gallery of Scotland, и что именно в ней есть замечательная коллекция картин.

Ольга, Вы совершенно правы, конечно нужно the gallery — это я невнимательно написала.

Артикль The: употребляется с национальностями. (the British, the English)

Почему же тогда с Frenchman употребляем (А)?

здесь не идет речь о национальности в том смысле, в котором Вы думаете, здесь речь идет о представителе нации одном, каком-то — а Frenchman (какой-то один француз). Далее по тексту будет The frenchman (тот, о котором уже говорилось). В значении национальности мы будем говорить The French / French people

Потому что District это не название озера. The Lake District это регион.

Добрый день, здесь однозначно the, и не только потому что the national gallery, не только потому что в обстоятельствах места (не имеется ввиду те случаи, когда используются названия) преимущественно the, но еще и потому, что из контекста понятно где (в той определенной галерее, о которой говорилось Выше)

Пожалуйста! Насчет официанта предпочтительнее употреблять the, так как по контексту понятно, что он спрашивает не любого (какого-то) официанта, а официанта, который его обслуживает. Но ваша версия имеет место быть (в кафе много официантов и он спрашивает одного из них) и она вполне доказуема. В оригинале текста — the, потому и я использовала в ответах the.

В 13 и 16 артиклей не нужно.

здравствуйте! объясните, пожалуйста, почему в Suddenly through (9). window используется the?

Добрый день, здесь предмет понятен из контекста, человек сидит в кафе, и вдруг видит в окне. окно не любое, окно в кафе (и здесь не нужно заморачиваться по поводу, что в кафе может быть 10 окон и это одно из них. ). В подобных предложениях вообще всегда ставится артикль the. А в целом, в обстоятельствах места в английском языке the встречается в разы чаще, чем а.

Добрый день, объясните, пожалуйста, почему в 4 упр. 18 — the, а в 21 — а? это же конкретное озеро, о котором уже упоминалось в тексте.

The land of lakes — земля озер — определенная, слово земля определяется последующей фразой с оf (of lakes). Если после существительного идет уточняющая фраза (существительное с предлогом of) — в таком случае мы всегда используем артикль the.

What a beautiful lake! — фразы-восклицания what a (such a, rather a) всегда идут с артиклем a (если существительное исчисляемое и в ед.числе) или без артикля (множественное число или неисчисляемое). What a nice day! What nice days! (какой хороший день / какие хорошие деньки)
