THE SIGHTS OF RUSSIA

The capital of Russia is Moscow. It is one of the largest cities in the world. It was founded in 1147 by prince Yuri Dolgoruky . Moscow stands on the banks of the Moskva River. About eight million people live in the city.

Moscow is famous for its historical and architectural monuments. The Red Square is the central and the most beautiful square in Moscow. It is the place of parades, meetings and demonstrations.

The Cathedral of St. Vasily the Blessed was built in 1552 on the Red Square. It is a masterpiece of Russian architecture.

The heart of Moscow is the Kremlin. There is a wonderful architectural ensemble with three cathedrals , the Bell Tower Ivan the Great, palaces, fortress walls and twenty towers inside the Kremlin.

On the stone pedestal at the foot of the Bell Tower there is a Tsar-Bell – the largest bell in the world. Not far from it one can see a Tsar-Cannon.

One of the well-known Kremlin museums is the Armoury Chamber. It was built in 1851.

The famous golden cap of Monomach , carriage of Catherine II and many other precious historical items are exhibited there.

Moscow is a scientific cultural centre with a lot of institutes, universities, libraries and museums. There are many cinemas, concert halls, theatres in Moscow, such as: the Bolshoi Theatre, the Art Theatre, the Maly Theatre, the Vakhtangov Theatre.

And also you can visit the Tretyakov Gallery. This gallery is named after its founder Peter Tretyakov . He began to collect Russian paintings in 1856. You can see pictures by such painters as Serov , Repin , Ivanov , Levitan and others.

The Moscow State University

Moscow Metro has more than 190 stations now. The metro began its work on the 15-th of May 1935. Now each day, the Moscow Metro carries 9 million passengers .

The Ostankino Television Tower is one of the architectural symbols of Moscow and the symbol of Russian television. It has fourty -five floors. The total area is about fifteen thousand square meters.

There is the largest stadium in Moscow – Luzhniki . It was built in 1956 and reconstructed in 1979 (beforehand the Summer Olympic Games in 1980 which held in Moscow)

THE KREMLIN Just as the White House in Washington, the Kremlin in Moscow is the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation.

Red Square is the main square in Moscow. Red Square is allocated along the northeastern wall of the Kremlin.

Lenin’s Mausoleum can be seen in Red Square, anyone can visit it to look at the embalmed body of Vladimir Lenin.

Kazan Cathedral Cathedral has one more name — Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan.

Kitay-gorod, which is also called Great Possad, is located near Red square. «Kitay» originates from «kita», which is an obsolete word for plait.

The state Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg – the best gallery Russia representing world art, one of the most famous art museums in the world.

Derbent One of the oldest inhabited cities in the world.

Suzdal was formerly the capital of one of the principalities of Ancient Rus, and now it’s part of the so-called Golden ring — historic cities, which have preserved fine examples of medieval Russian architecture.

The state Tretyakov gallery — The largest Russian Museum has collected a lot of masterpieces by Russian artists and not only.

The Bolshoi Theatre is one of the largest in Russia and one of the most significant in the world opera and ballet theaters.

The sights of Russia

old Arbat in Moscow In every city with a long history there is a street, like a magnet which attracts tourists, is impregnated with a special spirit, with houses and alleys, each of which can tell their interesting story. In Moscow, it is well-known Arbat street is one of the oldest streets of Moscow. Today Arbat is as important Moscow sights like Red square, the Bolshoi theatre and St. Basil’s Cathedral.

The Arbat is interesting, perhaps, is the fact that it’s not a static monument, but a living, ever-changing space Since 1986, the street is completely pedestrian. Traditionally, it are the street artists drawing caricatures artists in abundance exhibited paintings on sale and Souvenirs

Cathedral of the Archangel The Cathedral of Peter I served as the burial place for Grand princes. Buried here Ivan I Kalita, Dmitriy Donskoy, Vasily I and Vasily II, Fedor and others. The Archangel Cathedral is located on Cathedral square of the Moscow Kremlin. In the 13th century on the site of the Cathedral was a wooden Church in the name of Archangel Michael. Under Ivan Kalita in 1333 was built a new white stone Church. One legend says: in the summer do not freak out rye, and in gratitude for the deliverance of Russia from the famine a temple was built.

Petrodvorets PetrodvoretsPeterhof is located 30 km from St. Petersburg and is one of the most famous Palace and Park ensembles of our country and perhaps the world.I would call it the main decoration of the «pearl necklace» of the city on the Neva is called the suburbs of St. Petersburg.The history of Peterhof is associated with Peter the great, who ordered in the mid 20-ies of the 18th century to create a country residence, which would be the residence of French kings — Versailles. Peter himself actively participated in the design and construction of this complex.Unique, in my opinion, the difference from other Peterhof Palace and Park ensembles are dozens of different in appearance and design of the fountains within the stunning complex

St. Basil’s Cathedral St. Basil’s Cathedral is one of the most famous monuments of ancient architecture. This is the main temple of the red square and throughout Moscow. It was built in the mid 16th century by decree of Ivan the terrible to commemorate the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan khanate. Later in one of the outside of the temple was buried, the Holy fool Basil the Blessed, so the Cathedral got its name. For us, Russians, it is a symbol of national history and national character.

Mamaev Kurgan Kizhi state historical-architectural and ethnographic Museum-reserve, located in Karelia. The name of the Museum on Kizhi island in lake Onega, in 68 km from Petrozavodsk. It is one of Russia’s largest open-air museums, historical-cultural and natural complex, which is the object of cultural heritage of our country.

Smolensk fortification Smolensk fortress wall is a defensive construction built in 1595-1602 years, in the reign of the kings of Fyodor Ivanovich and Boris Godunov. It is called the Smolensk Kremlin, the length of the walls of which 6.5 km away. it amazes Me that even surviving at the present time part of the wall (about half built at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries the building), demonstrates the greatness and historical importance of the buildings designed by the architect Fyodor Savelevich Horse.

Peterghof Peterghof is located 30 km from St. Petersburg and is one of the most famous palace and park ensembles in our country. It has dozens of beautiful and diverse fountains.

St. Basil’s Cathedral St. Basil’s Cathedral is considered one of the brightest and most famous monuments of ancient Russian architecture. This is the main temple of Red Square and all of Moscow.

Mamaev kurgan Mamayev Kurgan is rightfully considered the main height of Russia, the monument erected on it is a unique composition dedicated to the heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad. It captures the great epic about the courage and heroism of the defenders of Stalingrad.

Cathedral of Christ the Savior Cathedral of Christ the Savior — Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church in Moscow.

Smolensk fortress wall This is a defensive structure. It is also called the Smolensk Kremlin. The length of the wall is 6.5 km.

Lake Baikal Lake Baikal is the deepest in the world with 30 islands. It is surrounded on all sides by high ridges.

Valley of geysers in Kamchatka The word «geyser» means gushing. In the valley there are all known geysers, constantly operating and pulsating boiling springs, steam jets.

Kizhi State Museum-Reserve located in Karelia. It is unique in that its churches were felled with an ax (without the use of a saw and nails).

There is none on the Earth more beautiful than the Russian Federation .
